On the road to Sequoia National Park

After breakfast we did a long drive down the middle of California, which is very flat and very fertile. They call it the fruit bowl of the world, and it's where lots of people travelled a long long way across the deserts in the middle of America to find work in the 1930s after their own farms had stopped producing enough food. Now most of the people who work here come from Mexico and there are lots of Spanish radio stations.

Here's a huge grain silo where they keep the grain after they harvest it.

Here are the first palm trees we saw - it gets very hot here. Today it was 32 degrees for most of our journey - much hotter than we usually have in England.

These are some of the vineyards we drove past, where they grow the grapes to make Californian wine. We also saw lots of almond groves too.

And here's where stopped to get more petrol...

This is our car - it's a Ford like Mummy and Mama's car, and it is bright red, and very small compared to most of the other cars you see in America (but normal sized for an English car)
